A Clear Word Counseling Center Mud Creek Baptist Church is pleased to announce the development of A Clear Word Counseling Center. Our counseling ministry began in 1998 with a single counselor and has expanded with the needs of the community. We are now a non-profit, faith based organization with a mission of assisting our church and community as they face various struggles in their journey through life. Our staff represent a variety of credentials ranging from professional counselors, pastoral counselors, clinical social workers and coaches. CWCC is dedicated to promoting emotional health and spiritual healing to all who seek our services. Counseling Services Offered Our professional counseling and coaching services provide biblically-based assistance for individuals, couples and families, who may find themselves in a time of emotional or spiritual struggle. Our services are fee-based with a sliding fee schedule based on household income. In addition, Donna Gibbs is on the provider network for a number of insurance companies. Director of Support, Counseling and Marriage Ministries
Donna graduated from North Carolina State University in 1993 with a BA in Psychology. She has post-graduate training in the specialization of School Psychology and a MS in Community Counseling which she earned in 1997 from Western Carolina University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a national Certified Counselor. She has recently completed her Ph. D. in Christian Counseling and Psychology from Louisiana Baptist University. She is certified in Critical Incident Stress Management for Disaster Relief debriefing and is also a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors.
Donna has been in practice at Mud Creek Baptist Church since 1998. Prior to full-time practice at Mud Creek, she served in various Community Mental Health Agencies as a Child and Family Therapist and school consultant. She co-authored Water From the Rock, a resource for those who are struggling with the grief of infertility, which was published by Moody Press in 2002. Donna is married with three young miracle boys.
Bill Byars, Biblical Coach
Nouthetic Counselor
Bill served as pastor of Mercy Ministries at First Baptist Church in Los Alton, California for many years prior to moving to North Carolina. His duties there included counseling regarding marriage, pre-marriage, divorce recovery, finances, grief and addictions. His training in pastoral counseling and theology were from Western Seminary. His accomplishments prior to ministry are many. Bill received his Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering from California State University. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in California, President and CEO of four major environmental and technical companies, California delegate to the White House Conference on Small Businesses, and a consultant to the United Nations. He also served four years in the United States Air Force.
Bill has served at Mud Creek since 2003. He is certified in disaster relief debriefing through Critical Incidence Stress Management. He is currently working on certification as a Nouthetic Counselor from the National Association of Nouthetic Counselors. He is married with three children and nine grandchildren. Tedd Nelson, MRE, MSSW, LCSW
Clinical Social Worker
Tedd graduated in 1965 with a BA in philosophy from Mississippi College. He graduated from Southern Seminary in 1969 with a MRE-SE degree in education and social work. In 1971, he graduated from the University of Louisville with a MSSW degree in Clinical Social Work.
Tedd has been a clinical social worker since 1968 with focuses on inpatient, outpatient and partial hospitalization for adults, couples, groups and families. Other areas of focus have included management, consultation, supervision, teaching, corrections, substance abuse, and private practice for several years. He has also worked as an adjunct professor for Florida State University, the University of South Carolina and St. Leo College.
Tedd retired from full-time practice in 2005 to focus on missions and disaster relief. He is certified as a disaster recovery worker and as a disaster chaplain under the auspices of the North Carolina Baptist Men's Association. Tedd is married, has one daughter, two step-sons, four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and a dog. His hobbies include a love of nature and outdoors, photography, fishing, painting and golf.
Mitch Marlowe, BA, MRE Pastoral Counselor
Mitch is a native of Statesville, NC. He is a graduate from Mars Hill College with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Psychology and a graduate from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas with a Master's Degree in Religious Education with Youth and Family Studies. He also has completed the Duke University Family Coalition Studies Certification. Mitch is currently training in Nouthetic Counseling and is in the Master's of Marriage and Family Counseling degree program through Liberty University. His experience includes over 20 years in Youth Ministry and working with families in crises. He is an ordained minister and married to Beth and together they have 4 daughters ages 16, 13, 4, and an infant. He loves football, basketball, baseball, fishing, teaching, and living life to its fullest!
Anna Klosek, MA, Ed.S.
Resident, LPC Board Eligible
Anna graduated in 1997 with her B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Social Work from, West Liberty State College in West Liberty, WV. She obtained an M.A. in General Psychology, in 2000, and an Education Specialist degree, in School Psychology, in 2001, from Marshall University Graduate College in South Charleston, WV. She has completed additional coursework, in Counseling, from Liberty University, in Lynchburg, VA.
Anna is currently completing a residency with A Clear Word Counseling Center, while completing NC licensure requirements. Upon completion of the licensure process, she intends to begin practicing as a professional counselor on a full-time basis with the counseling center. Anna has extensive experience working with children and families. She has been a licensed School Psychologist working in several NC school districts over the past 7 years. In addition, she has experience working as a case manager for the MR/DD population and working in an inpatient psychiatric setting where she served as a Mental Health Specialist. On a volunteer level Anna has previously served as a youth leader for more than 10 years. Anna is married and enjoys spending time with family and friends and spending time outdoors.
Frank J. Schizzano, MA
Christian Counselor
Frank graduated from William Patterson University with a BA in Social and Behavioral Sciences in 1979. He also attended Polytechnic Institute from 1984-1985 in their Master’s Program for Transportation Management. Frank worked for the City of New York for 32 years and was appointed by Mayor Rudolph Guiliani in 1994 as Assistant Commissioner of Transportation. He retired in 1996. Frank is an ordained Deacon with Mud Creek Baptist Church. He has a Master’s Degree in Christian Counseling from Louisiana Baptist University.
In the past 34 years Frank has served in various capacities as a group facilitator. His primary focus was marriage intervention and anger management. He has also served in the prison ministry for 12 years in the New Jersey State prison system. He has served at Mud Creek Church since 2002. Frank has been married to Gloria for 45 years and has a daughter Frances, who lives in New Jersey.
Frank enjoys playing softball with the Hendersonville Senior League. He also plays the keyboard and sings at the local nursing homes in his spare time.
Lisa Jackson, BS
Support Ministry Coordinator
Lisa graduated from Gardner-Webb University in 2005 with a BS in Human Services. She completed her internship in 2004 with Donna Gibbs, Christian Counselor facilitating and developing groups for Mud Creek’s Support Ministries. Lisa has worked with all ages – including youth ministry at Mud Creek, college admissions at Gardner-Webb University and is now serving as the Support Ministry Coordinator at Mud Creek.
Lisa has been married to Chris since 2002 and together the have a little boy named Garrett. Lisa enjoys spending time with her family outside during her free time.
Kim Greene
Office Manager
Kim graduated from East Henderson High School in 1992. After taking classes at Blue Ridge Community College, Kim worked for 2 years as a Unit Clerk at Pardee Hospital inpatient unit. In 1995, she worked as a receptionist at the Center for Change for Dr. Pamela Lowe. In 2004, she began work in the office of Dr. Charles Baber.
Kim has been married to husband, Dean, for 11 years and has two children.
Margaret Palmer
Administrative Support
Margaret is married to Bob, with five children and three granddaughters. Before moving to Hendersonville N.C., they lived in Houston, Texas where she volunteered for a nondenominational group called Angels Attic. Her duties included working in the thrift shop and office area, as well as working with the counselors. Margaret has been involved with support ministries at Mud Creek since 2003, leading a group and promoting these services to the community. Her hobbies include interior decorating, gardening, reading and knitting. Margaret says she finds working with people and serving the Lord most rewarding and feels privileged that He has trusted her with his work.
